At the heart of Mayfield’s philosophy is the Incarnational spirituality which informs all that we do and believe as a Catholic community of faith.  This philosophy is best expressed in the mission of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus that seeks “to help others to believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world.” By providing a variety of opportunities to worship, learn and serve, the Campus Ministry program and Religious Studies curriculum (link) enrich the life of each student sand deepen the spiritual experience of each member of the community.

Liturgies
All-school liturgies and prayer services occur each month. This is a special time when we come together for prayer and to share our faith. Students help plan and participate in all liturgical celebrations and prayer services.

Retreats
Retreats offer the opportunity for reflection, meditation and spiritual growth.   The goal of this program is to help each student along her own spiritual journey. The freshman and sophomore retreats are one day in length, and focus, respectively, on the themes of friendship and voices.  Juniors attend an overnight retreat on choices, and seniors attend a three-day Kairos retreat.  Again, students help plan and run the retreats.

Campus Ministry Student Leadership Team
Students can volunteer to participate on the Campus Ministry Leadership Team, which orchestrates the school service program and helps plans school-wide liturgies. The Team consists of about forty students, approximately ten from each class. From these students, the staff Campus Minister selects two Student Leaders from each class, Project Managers, Administrators, and Publicity Managers. The Campus Ministry Leadership Team meets at least once weekly, and more often before large service projects such as the Christian Service Fair and Cornelia Connelly Day.

Service to others is an integral part of a Holy Child education.

The school’s motto, taken from Cornelia Connelly’s writings, is “Actions Not Words.”

Our Campus Ministry Program helps students to actively involve themselves in a wide variety of service projects. They become real community leaders in schools, hospitals and other service organizations, collectively giving over 4800 service hours a year.

The Program builds awareness and compassion, and teaches the value of a lifelong commitment to helping others.
